Ancillary events, like the Kiddies Ride, take place on 11 November 2017, with the Mountain Bike Challenge taking place on 11 and 12 November 2017.
What’s the big challenge?
The Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge is the second-largest timed cycle race in the world. This cycle race attracts more than 30,000 people to its tracks, to complete a crazy 94.7-kilometre course.
Get in the saddle
By now, your training programme for this big race should have wound down, but if you’re feeling a little low on energy, we’ll remind you why it’s important to get in the saddle:
- Cycling helps to improve your cardiovascular fitness;
- Cycling improves your muscle strength, mobility, and flexibility;
- Cycling helps to improve your posture and co-ordination;
- Cycling is a fun, easy to learn, low-impact form of exercise that nearly everyone in the family can enjoy and
- Cycling to and from work/school cuts down on your petrol bill and your personal carbon footprint.
What to Expect
The best part of this endurance event is that Johannesburg streets are closed for the duration of your ride, so staying safe on the roads is a little easier. If you’re a first-timer, this guide can help you survive your first Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge. Check out the 2017 Route Map on the official Facebook page to familiarise yourself with what to expect. Most importantly, don’t forget your race number! No number = No ride!
Don’t forget to pick up your race number, take your bike for a service, and get a good night’s rest before you set off for your big day in the saddle. We’ll see you on the road!
