Swap the sweets for treats
We know the pain of skipping out on the fun, when all you want to do is join in the holiday festivities. Don’t deprive yourself of the festive feasts: rather, optimise your eating to make your indulgence that little bit better for everyone. You’ve worked hard all year to stay on track with your health goals. We like to think of this festive season approach as: swapping the sweets for treats, and it’s somewhat simple to do.
Baking, but better
Everyone looks forward to your family favourites over the festive season, when the kitchen is filled with all the aromas you associate with spending quality time with the ones you love. Don’t be scared of switching things up a little, to put a healthier spin on those cookies, cakes, and treats. It can be as simple as swapping out ingredients; for example, instead of using your traditional cake flour for baking, try almond flour. You may need to adjust your recipe and tweak a few methods, but it’ll be worth it in the end! These are our top three festive bakes to try this holiday season:
- Almond Flour Sugar Cookies
- Maple Cinnamon Meringues
- Spiced cupcakes with Maple Cream Cheese frosting (and yes really, quinoa!)
Traditional and tasty
Settling in for a long lazy lunch with those you love is one of the best parts of the holidays. Twisting the traditional feast is a little easier when you opt for healthier options at the table. We love:
- Edible food wreaths: Rather than serving up those boring old platters, filled with fried food, try an edible food wreath. They’re festive, fun, and oh-so-simple for sharing. Check out this video of a crudite wreath and this one, that shows you how to make a delicious edible wreath using fruits and vegetables.
- Roasts with the most: We love roast chicken with root vegetables, this vegan spin on a steak you won’t expect and these stuffed sweet potatoes.
