Here’s our good guide for a healthy holiday:
There’s a big difference between eating well and depriving yourself. We love the 80/20 rule and it’s one that can so easily be applied during the festive season too. The 80/20 rule of nutrition gives you ample space to enjoy the finer indulgences of the festive season, while keeping you on track with your health goals. Make it an 80/20 festive season, and you’ll start the new year right on schedule with your fitness and health routines.
We can’t stress this enough: sleep is vital for your health. Sure, the temptation to stay up all night is real, but make sure you get the shuteye you need during the holidays. Aim for between six to nine hours a night, and you’ll feel energised enough to keep going, and won’t skid into 2019 feeling more tired than you did at the end of a very long year.
You think you overdid it at the dessert buffet, and you might have let that bag of candy empty out a little too quickly. Here’s the good news: if you ate badly one day, you get a whole new day to try again! We recommend counteracting any festive season indulgence by moving more. Turn it into a fun activity for everyone: take the dogs for an extra-long walk; head to the park for a family soccer game, or spend the afternoon outdoors playing cricket. Move more together, and you’ll find it develops into a fun family habit you can carry into the new year.
Updating your medical information, making sure everyone knows the right emergency numbers, and ensuring there’s an emergency plan for everyone is important. If you’re travelling during the holidays, don’t forget to check your family first aid kit and make sure everyone stays safe.
